Child Safe

At South Geelong Primary School, we are committed to maintaining high standards and expectations to create a safe, happy, and productive environment for all students. In line with the Victorian Parliament’s Child Wellbeing and Safety Amendment (Child Safe Standards) Bill 2015, we have implemented these standards to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students.

Purpose of Child Safe Standards: The Child Safe Standards are designed to foster a cultural shift within organizations that provide services for children, embedding the protection of children from abuse into everyday thinking and practice.

Key Elements of Our Child Safe Commitment:

  • Organisational Culture: We implement strategies to embed a culture of child safety through effective leadership and practices.
  • Child Safe Policy: A clear policy or statement of commitment to child safety guides our practices.
  • Code of Conduct: We have a code of conduct that outlines expectations for appropriate behaviour with children
  • Reporting Processes: We have established procedures for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse.
  • Risk Management: Strategies are in place to identify, reduce, and remove risks of child abuse.
  • Empowerment of Children: We promote the participation and empowerment of children in our community.

We believe that implementing these standards will enhance our existing practices for preventing and responding to child abuse, ensuring consistency in addressing potential concerns. Our commitment reflects our dedication to fostering a community-wide culture focused on nurturing healthy, happy young people who feel protected and safe from harm.
